CampusQ Privacy & Safety Policy

campusq.ca · Last updated: August 2026

Our commitment

CampusQ connects verified university students over live video. We built it because we thought students deserved a space to meet each other that was not anonymous, not algorithmic, and not another social feed.

Safety and privacy are what we take most seriously. This page tells you exactly what we do, exactly what we do not do, what we expect from you, and what happens when something goes wrong. We have tried to avoid vague reassurance. Where our protections have limits, we say so.

CampusQ is operated independently by its founders. It is not operated, sponsored, or endorsed by Wilfrid Laurier University or by any other institution named on this site.

1. Who is on CampusQ

Verification. You cannot create an account without receiving a verification code at an email address on our list of accepted Canadian post-secondary domains. We maintain that list ourselves and add institutions as we expand. The site’s launch is exclusive to Wilfrid Laurier University.

Age. CampusQ is restricted to users aged 17 and over who are students at a Canadian university. You must confirm your age at signup. If you are under 17, you may not use this service, and accounts found to belong to minors are removed immediately. If someone on CampusQ states or appears to be under 17, end the conversation and report them.

What verification proves. It proves that a person had access to an inbox at an accepted university domain. That is a meaningful filter. It makes disposable accounts and mass abuse much harder than on open platforms, and it means every account is tied to an institutional identity we can trace.

What verification does not prove. It does not confirm a person’s name, photo, program, age, current enrollment, location, intentions, or character. Some university domains are also available to staff, alumni, and affiliates. Profile details are self-reported and we do not independently verify them.

Treat every match as a person you do not know. Verification narrows the pool. It does not vouch for anyone in it.

2. Rules of conduct

The following are prohibited on CampusQ. Violations result in removal from the platform, and where the law requires it, referral to authorities.

Sexual conduct and exploitation

  • Nudity, sexual activity, or sexual exposure of any kind, whether or not the other person consents
  • Sexual requests, pressure, or explicit conversation directed at someone who has not invited it
  • Any sexual content involving, depicting, or directed at a person under 18
  • Grooming, sextortion, trafficking, or child sexual abuse material

Harassment and harm

  • Threats, intimidation, stalking, or blackmail
  • Hate speech or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected ground
  • Doxxing, or sharing another user’s personal information without consent
  • Encouraging self-harm or suicide

Recording and privacy

  • Recording, screen-capturing, or photographing another user without their express consent
  • Sharing, distributing, or threatening to distribute any recording or image of another user

Deception and abuse of the platform

  • Impersonating another person, or misrepresenting your age or institutional affiliation
  • Sharing your account, or using an account verified under someone else’s email
  • Fraud, phishing, scams, malware, requests for money, or attempts to move a conversation off-platform for any of the above
  • Spam, advertising, bots, scraping, false reports, or attempts to bypass or overload the service

3. Safety features

Instant disconnect. You can end any conversation at any time with a single tap. You are never locked into a call, you never have to give a reason, and the other person is not told why you left.

Report. A Report button is visible in every active conversation. You can also report someone afterward from their profile in your History tab. Reporting is confidential: our team can see who filed a report, and the person you report never can.

Human review. Every report is read by a member of our team. We do not use automated systems to close reports. Reports involving safety of a person, sexual content, or a suspected minor are prioritized.

Blocking. You can block anyone you have matched with. They are not notified that you blocked them.

Minimal social footprint. CampusQ has no public feed, no followers, no likes, no search, and no public profile. You cannot be found or followed. This removes most of the ways harassment persists on mainstream platforms. There is an option available not to be placed in people’s call histories.

4. Protecting yourself

Most conversations on CampusQ are ordinary and fine. These habits are for the ones that are not.

  • Do not share your phone number, personal email, social handles, class schedule, residence, workplace, or live location. A combination of program, year, residence, and club can identify you even without a name.
  • Never share a verification code, password, or login session. We will never ask for one. Only enter CampusQ codes on campusq.ca.
  • Do not send money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or banking details to anyone you meet here, for any reason, under any story.
  • Leave immediately if someone pressures you, sexualizes the conversation, threatens you, or makes you uncomfortable. You do not owe anyone an explanation or a polite exit.
  • Be wary of pressure to move to another app quickly. It is a common first step in scams and coercion, because it takes you somewhere with no reporting and no record.
  • If you ever choose to meet someone offline, meet in a busy public place, tell a friend where you are going, arrange your own transportation, and do not leave a drink unattended.
  • On a shared or lab computer, log out and clear site data when you are done.

5. Your privacy and data

What we collect. Your verified university email address, the profile information you choose to provide (name, bio, photos), and usage data such as matches and messages.

How we use it. Solely to operate CampusQ — to match you with other students, enable messaging, investigate reports, and improve the app. We do not sell your data to third parties.

Where it’s stored. Securely, via Supabase, with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest.

What we don’t store. Video, audio, or transcripts. Calls are never recorded.

Your match record. You see part of it in your History tab. Our team can access the full record in order to investigate reports, since it is the only way to confirm a conversation happened and to spot repeat behaviour.

What others see. Your name, photo, university, program, age, and bio are shown to anyone you match with, and stay in their History for 24h if the conversation lasts 45 seconds or more. Put in only what you are comfortable with a stranger on your campus keeping. You can edit or remove these at any time.

Account deletion. You can delete your account at any time from the Settings page. This permanently removes your profile and data from our systems.

6. Emergencies and serious harm

CampusQ is not an emergency service. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.

If you encounter child sexual abuse material, grooming, or exploitation of a minor: report it in the app and report to Cybertip.ca or police. Do not save, download, forward, or share the material, even to document it.

You do not need our permission to go to campus security, local police, or your university’s conduct office at your own discretion.
